International Trade With France
France has been slow to emerge from the economic slump directly caused by the Great Recession in the late 2000s. The past decade has been tough on the French economy, and as such, any growth has been modest, if at all.
These days, it isn't a stretch to say that things are looking up on the economic front. The record stretch of growth is being attributed to President Emmanuel Macron, whose youth and vigour as the youngest president in France's history has been a driving force.
What's more, this doesn't appear to be a lucky run, more like a consistently healthy acceleration. With its strongest performance since 2008, the French economy has been forward for the past ten consecutive quarters, meaning that things appear to be looking up at long last.
E-commerce has been showing signs of expansion, especially in the consumer market. While internet shopping has been relatively low at around 50-60%, France is the second-largest country in Europe by population after Germany; signs indicate this is set to change.
However, there are indications that this is rapidly growing. Consumer e-commerce in France was worth roughly US$52 billion in 2015 and is expected to be worth US$64 billion in 2018 – a 23 per cent increase in only three years. This US$4 billion per year increase makes it one of the French economy's standout performers, although accounting for only 6% of overall retail sales. Similar-sized countries have higher e-commerce usage, implying France is on the verge of a mini-boom in e-commerce.
If you haven't considered expanding into foreign markets, then you should seriously consider France.
